Cathy Cooney provides Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy and she is one of
only a handful of Physiotherapists treating these conditions in Ottawa.
On your first visit Cathy will conduct an assessment which includes your
health history and an internal evaluation of the pelvic floor muscle
function. Pelvic floor treatments typically last from 45 mins to one
hour. Most patients have an average of six treatments for incontinence
or prolapse. The average number of visits for pelvic pain typically
ranges from eight to ten. Dysfunction of the pelvic floor can occur at
any age (most typically after childbirth and during peri-menopausal
years) and can result in any of the following conditions.

Treatments We Offer:
• An exercise program to address strength, speed, endurance
and coordination of the pelvic floor and core muscles
• Manual therapy to improve the quality of muscle contraction.
• Computer Biofeedback - involves an internal probe and provides information on muscle
function and provides the patient with a visual feedback of the
muscle contraction
• Electrical Muscle Stimulation - internal stimulation of the
pelvic floor.
• Education regarding influencing factors, such as,
constipation, dietary habits and core stability. |
